Division of Space
This vase has three distinct areas: neck, shoulder and body. The challenge is to design them to relate to one another with unity and also stand on their own without overwhelming the vase.
The neck looks best as a solid color extension of the sky on the shoulder. The clouds on the shoulder have a white carved edge to give them more dimension and energy and bring some white into the design that relates it to the body. Lastly, the body is a beach painting of seabirds with water, sand and rocks that features a local birds— an egret, a plover and seagulls.
