Glaze Effects

November 03, 2025

Sometimes I just luck out and the glaze combinations I am trying on a particular piece look amazing together. This is 4 different glazes that turned into at least 8 colors inside this bowl that all look beautiful together.  That is the magic of pottery.  The secret is to keep a spiral notebook nearby while glazing and make a little sketch recording what glazes you used and where.  It may not be exactly repeatable due to subtle atmospheric changes inside the kiln, but you can often get similarly beautiful effects in slightly different ways by using the same glazes on a new piece. More magic, in other words.
